A case of many aggrieved individuals versus the defendant, Ajibola Odusanya
Is it just me or do many people still underestimate the power of social media especially when it comes to reporting criminal activities? But before we delve into this aspect of the issue, I want to rant about this low-budget Tinder Swindler.
It seems these scammers that have been exposed during the past couple of years belong to the same WhatsApp group where all they do is plot new ways to take advantage of the remaining good women we have left on Earth. And what hurts me the most is they know how to spot the right targets for their illicit acts.
I used to think African women were immune to the tactics used by these sources of destruction but I guess they must have gotten smarter or the hearts of the female gender are more fragile than I thought.
Poor Olamide probably thought she had seen a forever partner in Olamide and that was why she kept sending him money till she couldn’t any longer. Some people might call her naive and swear heaven and earth that they could never fall for such cheap tricks, but trust me when I say if love wants to deal with you, it will strip you of the common sense you thought you had. Later a lot of people will wonder why their partners don't spend on them (who knows, you might be the next serial scammer).
And this doesn't just apply to intimate relationships. How many times have you lent money to your supposed “close friends”, only for you to beg them to pay you back?. Some even guilt trip you by asking you how much the borrowed from you for you to pester their phone lines. You’re even lucky if they reply to your WhatsApp messages and calls. At this point, I feel they should be a special place in hell for this set of people.
Now back to the power of social media. The UK-based lady has confirmed receipt of £17,000 the last time we saw her on Twitter out of £20,400 and this taught me an invaluable lesson; never underestimate the power of Twitter in-laws. All you need is a well-narrated story, screenshots, and powerful hashtags and let the algorithm do the rest.
If this lady had decided to keep the problem to herself she would have probably gotten sick from depression and one self-centered alpha male would come out later and complain of her being selfish.
Anywhere, the moral of this lady’s experience is to become a powerful prayer warrior, because I don’t think anyone can avoid being scammed without the guidance of God behind you.
Anyway, I’m not an expert in spotting scammers. This is just my two cents…
